Humberto's Story
MY CKD:
I got a prostate surgery and after this surgery my kidneys were affected leading to hydronephrosis. I live with CKD calm and confident. I gained that confidence thanks to my medical and family support. My biggest fear is to start dialysis, that's why I follow all the recommendations.
MY DIET:
Adapting my diet was difficult at the beginning, especially to stop eating red meat and sausages that I liked so much. But, step by step, I have managed it and now I enjoy the meals I am allowed to eat.
MY LIFE:
My routine always starts the same: I wake up, read the newspaper and watch the news. Then I have breakfast and go to the gym. I really enjoy working out, it makes me feel vital and strong. That is why I do it every day. Another hobby I enjoy is playing with my dog. My brother-in-law or Sandra, my eldest daughter always accompany me in these activities.
MY SUPPORT:
My children, my brother-in-law and my dog are my daily motivation. They push me every day to wake up happy and grateful.
MY ADVICE:
I would tell new patients that it is possible to live well with CKD, neither my age nor this disease have prevented me from living a full and peaceful life. Please follow all the recommendations of your physician.
