About CKD
Chronic kidney disease (CKD), also known as chronic renal disease, is a condition that occurs when your kidneys don’t work as well as they should to excrete waste, toxins and excess fluids.
CKD is a progressive disease and there is a point where the kidneys cannot fulfil their tasks any more and dialysis becomes necessary. But you are not helpless, there is a lot you can do to slow down the progression of the disease for example with a conservative treatment approach.
Stages of CKD
The chronic impairment of the kidneys has been defined as stages of CKD based
on the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) which is usually determined as eGFR, an
estimation of the GFR, calculated from laboratory parameters. The glomerulus is a
functional unit of the kidney responsible for the filtration process from blood into
urine. If your GFR is too low, your kidneys may not be able to remove enough
waste products and excess water from your blood.

Preserve your quality of life
A big part of the conservative treatment approach for CKD is a specific
nutritional management to relief the kidneys and preserve their function.
